Anchor Text

Anchor Text SEMRUSH

Anchor text is simply the words that ARE the visible part of the link that you see on a page.
Not the target URL/web address, but the actual words that you click on to go to the target URL.

If you are familiar with HTML (who actually uses it directly anymore?), this would mean the text that is between the starting <a> tag and the closing </a> tag.

Anchor text is an often underserved part of a company’s SEO strategy, as it is one of the more ‘under the radar‘ factors.

The truth is that since Google depends a lot on link to map the web and decide rankings, the words that represent the link on the page carry a disproportionate power. The words you use as anchor text are a chance to provide extra information about the link to Google, so use anchor text wisely. Be descriptive, for both external AND internal links.

On the web we’ll find a lot of naked anchors, which in other words means that there is no extra text to give context to the link, you see and click on the actual target URL.

So, instead of Seeing Anchor Text like this, you just see the link in its naked URL form: https://randomkeyword.com/
